About the Veterinary Clinic of the Gatineau Hills
In the late 1970s, a young veterinarian began searching for a community to start a family and a veterinary practice. Dr. Mark Froimovitch and his wife Carol started Clinique Vétérinaire de la Gatineau in the basement of their rented house, in the verdant Meech Creek Valley, near Wakefield. They delivered medical and surgical veterinary care to pets and farm animals from Chelsea to Gracefield and 100 kilometers around.
In January 1983 Dr. Froimovitch built a veterinary clinic closer to the community of Wakefield which continues to serve as our Wakefield location.
The first Chelsea clinic was opened in 1990, at which point the practice evolved to focus exclusively on small animals. It began in a converted farmhouse built by the Hendrick family in the 1950s and although the location served the practice well for many years, after many renovations it became time for it to be replaced.
Construction of the new facility that stands there today was completed in 2017.
Dr. Penny Wootton joined the practice in 2004 and after deciding the Gatineau Hills were a wonderful place to live, partnered with Mark in 2011. It was a good decision and Mark and Penny and their dedicated team have been delivering the very best medical care to the community ever since.
Dr. Melissa Jowett is the most recent veterinarian to join the clinic coming on board in November 2018. Mel graduated from the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in Nottingham, U.K. in 2014. Her decision to travel to Canada after graduation ultimately led to a permanent move and she is now here to stay. Penny and Mark are excited to have her join the team at the clinic.
